AUDRA BRYANT

Why did you start dancing?

Because I couldn't do gymnastics. My legs were too long for gymnastics. Haha.

What years did you dance with MB?

2001 - 2011 (although I started training with Ms Jill in 1998 - 2011)

Favorite memory of dancing?

SO many, but the first thing that came to mind was the production of a modern re-telling of Cinderella that we did with Wichita State where I played a statue. There was a portion of the ballet that was filmed and we had a whole shoot day at Jabara Airport. I remember being covered in white make-up (since I was a statue, not my only time being a statue mind you) and I kept leaving white handprints everywhere. Haha. I remember having such a blast. Which is interesting because I just directed my first short film.

Does having danced affect you now?

Oh more than I can even say. It has shaped who I am as a creative, leader, worker, and overall human. Dance continues to teach me so much.

What do you do for a living?

I'm a director/choreographer/teacher in NYC!

How does what you do differ from what you thought you would be doing when you graduated from High School?

I thought I would be a full-time performer but I have since discovered how much I love being on the creative side and witnessing and fostering talent. I love being in a leadership position because that gives me the authority to create a positive and safe environment for actors and dancers alike.

Do you have any advice for younger dancers?

Dance is for everyone!! Regardless of whether or not you pursue it as a career, you will learn so much about yourself, discipline, commitment, and artistry. Invaluable lessons for life no matter what you go after.

Advice you would give to your 15 year old self?

No need to be so scared all the time. You got this. You're talented and you have a lot to offer. You got this.

Do you see dance performances at this point in your life?

Yes!!! Mainly in the musical theater world but yes!

What is the one moment where you have experienced the most joy in your life?

My brother and I did a 2 week Eastern European excursion during the summer of 2018. That was the first time I had been out of the country and it brought immense joy and perspective. Life-changing.
